Prayer for Blessings in the Year Ahead

Abba Father, we come before your presence. I just want to acknowledge your power that worked through us. Forgive us for sometimes forgetting that you are intimately acquainted with all of our ways, that you know what concerns us, and you cover us with a shield. Help us to walk in our purpose and calling, your blessing and goodness as we approach 2021. Lord, I ask that your face would shine on us and that you would open the right doors for our lives and for our loved ones, that you would close the wrong doors and protect us from those we need to walk away from.

Enlighten the eyes of our heart that we might see you and notice how you’re at work through our lives. Give us the wisdom to make the best choices, fill us with a desire to seek after you more than anything else in this world. Let your Spirit and power breathe in us, through us, again, fresh and new. Thank you that you are a good God and that you are greater than anything we may face in our daily lives. Thank you that your presence goes with us and that your joy is never dependent on our circumstances, but it is our true and lasting strength, no matter what we come against. We ask that your peace lead us throughout hate 2021 and forever. I sincerely ask that you guard our hearts and minds in you. We ask for your grace and mercy to cover our lives daily. You said in Your Words.

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion failed not.

They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV

New Year can often bring a mixed bag of emotions and memories for many of us. The events of 2020 including a pandemic, racial tensions, joblessness, and political battles created an unprecedented time of unrest and anxiety. While some may have just experienced the best year ever and look forward to an even greater one looming ahead, others may have just trudged through one deep struggle after another. The fresh calendar year brings desperate hope for things to be better, with an ache for the still-fresh wounds to slowly begin their process of healing. Praying at the start of the New Year doesn’t always bring immediate change at the stroke of midnight, but it begins the opening of our hearts to God’s Words of hope and peace.

Whether you’ve just walked through the greatest year of your life, or are incredibly glad to see this one finally over, one truth still rings clear amidst it all. You are not alone. Not ever. Scripture is filled with prayers of men and women who reached out to God for a fresh start. Praying is the main source of connection to the one who created you and the one who wants you to experience blessings and promises in the future.

Thank you that you are far greater than whatever we may face daily. Thank you that your presence goes with us and that your joy is never dependent on circumstances, but it is my true and lasting strength.

Jehovah-Jireh, the God who provides. We thank you that you own it all, and hold everything in your hands. We thank you that you know our needs before we even ask before we even come to you. You’re aware of all that concerns us, and you have a plan.

You hold the provision, you have the solution.

You alone can move mountains to make a way for your children. We ask for your answer, in your timing, in your plan, to be given for every need that weighs our hearts down.

Forgive us for doubting you, for worrying, and for trying so hard to work everything out on our own.

Help us to trust you more, help us in our unbelief. We choose to recognize and to believe that you are able to accomplish far more, to do far greater, than we even thought possible. We thank you in advance for your miracles, for paving out pathways, for your provision for those who love you. Thank you for the abundance of blessing and goodness you have already stored up. We trust you this day, and every day, and are so grateful for your Power and joy that fills our lives. Thank you that your love is perfect, it never fails, and that nothing can separate us from your love.

We pray that our lives would be filled and overflowing with the power of your love so we can make a difference in this world and bring honor to you. We ask for your help in reminding us that the most important things are not what we do outwardly, it’s not based on any talent or gift, but the most significant thing we can do in this life is simply to love you and to choose to love others
